The Carson House was built in 1878 by Pierce Ligon and purchased by William Henry Carson in 1887. It is now the oldest occupied home in
Pittsburg. Mr. Carson was in the lumber business, and, in 1898, he discovered a tract of land containing Curly Pine trees, diseased trees, now thought to be extinct, with a unique grain pattern. He purchased this land and milled the wood. In 1900, the first cut of the lumber was used to decorate the inside of this house. The Carson House has over one mile of Curly Pine, which was painstakingly stripped and refinished during the 1990 restoration. Operating as both a restaurant and inn since 1991, the Carson House today offers food and beverage unparalleled in east Texas, as well as six guest rooms for overnight stays. One of the suites is located in the railcar on the back of the property and is especially appropriate for those special occasions celebrated by couples. Five guest rooms are in the main house. Mrs. B’s Cottage was added in September 1999. This beautiful two-bedroom house was built in the 1920s. It is perfect for overnight and long-term visits. The inn specializes in private parties and catering. Small private parties are welcomed.
