The Allen House, an authentic Queen Anne Stick-style Victorian on three scenic acres, was built by Lysander H. Allen, a local wire goods manufacturer, in 1886. The house was also the life-long home of his son, Professor Harry Allen of Amherst College, and of Janet R. Strong, who prudently preserved the unique charm and original character of the house. This bed and breakfast inn features Eastlake-style furnishings, Aesthetic Movement decor, and art wall coverings of period designers Charles Eastlake, Walter Crane, and William Morris. Located in the heart of Amherst, the inn is opposite the Emily Dickinson Homestead and in walking distance to Amherst College, Hampshire College, The University of Massachusetts, galleries, museums, theaters, concert halls, shops, and restaurants. Small private parties are welcomed.
