Enjoy the splendor of yesteryear in this magnificent center-chimney colonial listed on the National Historic Register. Guest rooms are romantically furnished in period style, featuring four-poster and canopy beds, working fireplaces, Jacuzzi tubs, reading chairs, cable TV, phone/modem lines, air conditioning, and private baths. The home boasts fine original details, including wide-board floors, hand-hewn beams, wainscoting, a corner cupboard, a beehive oven, and six working fireplaces. A formal breakfast is served on fine china in the elegant dining room with fireplace. Built by Deacon Timothy Pratt in 1746, the house served as a private school in the 1790s. Guests may relax in the yard and gardens, in a hammock, or in a two-century-old maple tree with a swing. Area attractions include theaters, churches, town green activities, the North Cove historic district, spas, parks, quaint shops, Saybrook Point Park, the General William Hart House Museum, the coastal bicycle loop, Fort Saybrook Monument Park, lighthouses, the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos, Gillette Castle, outlet malls, and New England villages to explore. The inn is 100 miles from Boston and from New York City and one mile to beaches, lighthouses, cruises, a park, waterfront dining, and golf. Small private parties are welcomed. Travel agency receives commission from inn.
